Hebrew Congregation of Somers
 
Northern Westchester's Reconstructionist Synagogue and Temple, located in Somers. We welcome interfaith families from Westchester and Putnam and provide progressive Hebrew and religious school education for children and adults. Our members have varied backgrounds from the Reconstructionist, Reform,  Conservative, Orthodox, Cultural and non-affiliated branches of Judaism.

                                                    Our Rabbi

                                                           

Rabbi Fred Schwalb is a graduate of the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin with dual majors in history and Semitic Languages.  He has been a Jewish educator and has traveled to Israel countless times as a student, madrich, tour guide, and businessperson.  

Rabbi Fred has served in lay leadership positions at the Society For The Advancement of Judaism (where he met his wife) and at Bet Am Shalom in White Plains. 

In his business career he was export director for a multi-national corporation (the only Jew selling carpets in Saudi Arabia!) and is now head of a real property management company. In his copious free time he is a voracious reader (history, Judaism, politics) and unsuccessfully tries to keep up his jogging regimen. 

Rabbi Fred is married to Joanne Landau and has four children, one of whom still lives at home
