Hebrew School is in full swing. We have just observed four major holidays, which provided endless craft projects for the younger kids, such as mobiles based on the story of creation, matzo balls in vegetable broth and miniature Jonahs made out of pipe cleaners. For the older classes the chagim provided great topics of conversation and study. Our students contemplated where their lives within Judaism are headed and set personal goals for the coming spiritual year. Observing these holidays was a great way to start off the New Year by building a sense of identity and belonging within our community.
Now is the time to start working on some of the fundamental aspects of Yahadut. Practicing to read and write Hebrew, as well as a focus on general topics such as Shabbat, prayer, and recognizing characters from the Torah will be emphasized. Our teachers are working hard to customize each program so that all students feel engaged and challenged.
One of our goals for this year is to encourage students to share and celebrate both intermediary progress and cumulative achievements with their classmates, parents and teachers. One way to promote these milestones is through our class led services. The Daled and Gimmel class have both successfully participated in Friday night services. Practicing singing and speaking in front of the congregation will help them to prepare for the day when they become a Bnei Mitzah.
I would like to encourage parents and students to talk to me with any needs, suggestions or ideas. Your teachers and I are always available.
